Virtual Class FAQ
Q: Is the class live?
A: Yes, CulinaryLab’s virtual classes will be live sessions. All virtual classes will be recorded, edited, and sent to enrolled students within 72 hours of class.
Q: How long is the virtual class?
A: Two hours long.
Q: Will students be able to ask questions in real time?
A: Yes, students will be able to ask questions in real time. Both the Chef Instructor and Kitchen Assistant will be available in the virtual class to answer questions. After the class is over students have 1 week of complete access to the Chef Instructor to ask follow up questions via email.
Q: Are the ingredients included in the total price?
A: CulinaryLab will have a curbside pick-up option available to students for an additional fee with all ingredients prepped and portioned out so you’re ready for the class. These portioned out kits will be available for pick up two days before the class. If students wish to go shopping themselves, a list will be available to them a week before the class.
Q: If students opt out of the curbside pick-up kit, is there a price difference?
A: Yes, if a student does not wish to purchase the kit, the class will be lower in price.
Q: What equipment do students need?
A: Each virtual class will vary in required equipment needed for class. Please reference the class itself on the home cook webpage in the virtual class section. Click on an individual class for a detailed equipment list. If there’s a piece of equipment that you do not have we recommend checking out Chef’s Toys to build up your kitchen arsenal.
Q: What home cook classes are being offered virtually?

Q: Are you only offering classes virtually?
A: No, CulinaryLab is still offering our in person classes at our main school in Tustin as well as our satellite location in Santa Ana.
Q: How are virtual classes different from the in-person classes?
A: Our in-person classes are 4-6 hour in length that take place at our school in Tustin and our satellite kitchen in Santa Ana. There is a max of 12 students per class that receive in-person instruction by our Chef Instructors. Our virtual classes are tailored specifically so that our virtual students can receive the best instruction from our Chef Instructors on a virtual platform in their own home.
Q: What if a student signs up for the virtual class but then can no longer make the class live?
A: If a student can no longer make the live virtual class the following refund policy applies.
Refund policy for food kit + virtual class purchase: Cancellations 7 days or more before class receives a full refund. 3 to 6 days prior to the class, cancellations receive a partial refund of half the amount paid for class. Refunds are not available for cancellations within 48 hours of a class, however, you can send a friend in your place.

Q: Why is CulinaryLab offering virtual classes?
A: CulinaryLab prides itself in being a contemporary cooking school that adapts to industry trends. We are constantly looking for ways to grow and become a better and better resource for our students and community. By offering virtual classes, we are able to expand our reach and make culinary and pastry education more accessible to students who have a desire to learn how to cook and bake, but are not able to come to our school to take in person classes.
Q: How can I access the virtual class?
A: After enrolling in the class, CulinaryLab will send out the link/call in number 24 hours before the start of class. On the day of class, students will simply click on the link (or type in the call number) and then type in the password (which will be provided 24 hours in advance as well).
Q: What computer application or program do I need to participate in the virtual class?
A: Virtual classes will be conducted over Zoom. Please make sure to have the application downloaded prior to the class. You can download the application for free here. CulinaryLab will send out the call in number 24 hours before the class. For the optimal experience, we recommend that students also have their computer camera turned on during the virtual class. Our chefs like to see you too!
Q: Do students still get to interact with the Chef Instructor if they take the virtual class?
A: Yes, absolutely! We encourage virtual students to write out questions in the chat box while taking the class. This allows our Chef Instructors to best gage how virtual students are understanding the material while avoiding interruptions. Virtual students will also be able to be “called on” during the class.
Q: Will the Chef Instructor be able to check students’ work in the virtual class?
A: Yes, CulinaryLab Chef Instructors and Kitchen Assistants will do their best to give virtual students feedback on their progress throughout the class.
