What is the cost?
We can make your event as luxurious or as cost effective as you’d like! Depending on the size of your event, you can rent our semi-private indoor dining space or half the patio or the private full patio. Weekend dates are popular so we have event dates available on weekdays for a more affordable rate in addition to those premium times. We also have a range of options for food and add-ons you can mix-and-match to create an event that suits your vision and your budget.
How does food work?
We can do food one of three ways:
- The most cost effective: all of your guests can pay their own way (or “go dutch”) and grab food from anywhere in the Market with their own money
- Market Bucks (the most popular): you can pre-order Market Bucks, which are essentially gift cards to 4SM for a predetermined amount. $15 will usually cover a lunch meal while $30 could cover a meal and a drink or two at the bar. This is great for groups where you might have a wide variety of dietary needs or a mixed bag of folks who like different things.
- Catering: you can procure private catering from one of our 16 vendors in the Market- you would coordinate this directly with one of these vendors.
Can we bring outside food/drink?
Since we have such an amazing variety of small business food creators, no outside food is permitted.
Can we bring our own alcohol?
4SM is also home to Recess by Detention (formerly known as Playground). This modern craft cocktail bar features a variety of rotating craft beers, craft cocktails with made-in-house syrups and mixers, and a wine list curated by Detention's own sommelier. There is even a window on the patio to the bar that your guests can order drinks from directly! Since we have such an awesome bar, outside alcohol is not Permitted
Covid safety info
You graduate from CulinaryLab with the knowledge and connections needed to excel in a variety of culinary careers. A 1,000-hour paid apprenticeship program is part of the program. Many of our students stay at that job after graduation.
Can I come early to set up or is that more rental time?
We can absolutely add more time to your proposal if you’d like to have some extra time to set up and break down after your event. Setup and breakdown time must be accounted for in your total rental time.
How does the patio rental work? Hourly, flat fee, minimum spend?
We rent our space by the hour, with a minimum of 3 hours on weekends.
What is the capacity of the patio and indoor spaces?
The full patio seated capacity is 106 people; standing room only is 183. The half patio capacity is 30-48 people, depending on the setup. The indoor dining space seated capacity is 30, standing room only is 45-50.
